Mayor Ed Koch Grilling Outside NYC. Copyright Michael MundyGrowing up in New York City, the honorable Mayor Edward Irving Koch was a big part of my life. This is an afternoon I spent with him for House & Garden back in the 90’s. I was just with him three weeks ago, and he was as funny and clever as ever. I’m sorry to see him go. New York has lost its ambassador to the world.

  2. Nice to see praise, rather than dissing people all the time. Thanks for being so positive!

  3. It’s rare to hear about a politician that’s actually a decent person! Haha. It was cool that you got this peek into his life.

  4. So many great mayors in NYC but Mayor Koch could have been the greatest during my life time. What a personality. He walked the streets with the people. He cared.
Sorry to hear of his passing.
Great blog as well as pics.

Rest in peace Mayor Koch! You will be missed, don’t you think!

  10. I wrote to him, once, when his dog went missing, and he answered my letter. It was such a thrill in my young life. What a nice man, he was.

  11. I saw him lecture once at Cornell in the late 80s. Such a personality and a charisma – I dont remember the details, but the idea of the guy still makes me smile. A rare pol indeed. The ultimate world ambassador for NYC.

I live in Australia, so I only know about Mayor Koch what I have heard on the news over the years. Not one negative note, it has all been positive and in some cases inspiring. Mr Koch was not only an unusual man, but also, it seems to me, a role model for what politicians should aspire to but never seem to. Thanks for the photos, I really enjoyed that peek you gave us into his home.

  13. R.I.P. Mayor Koch. (Great photos, by the way).
