I recently found these scouting shots I did for my Edward Hopper series. We shot these up in Monticello NY, thanks to Jill Buchanan who invited me up and showed me around. She took me to the hotel where we eventually did the shot (bottom right). I love this picture. Its one of those shots that take on a life of their own.
Yet the scouting shot I find to be equally beautiful (upper right). Shot a few days before while scouting the locations. For me it just shows how beautiful an empty room can be.
What was a real surprise while going through the old scouting shots was this photo of a painting which hung in the “apartment” (I’ll explain the quotes another time) of Jill Buchanan. How strangely similar to the girl in the photo. What’s funny is the stylist never saw this image. She merely was reacting to the room when she dressed the girl as she did.
This is why I love what I do.
